Members of Jealous Nightingale will provide a lecture/demonstration on period instruments, the interaction of tradition and innovation that was occuring in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, including traditional forms present during this era.

Chamber music and the art of listening. Internationally acclaimed artists Bryan Pezzone and Miyuki Nakashima will coach selected student chamber ensembles, discussing and demonstrating the techniques and artistry required working with piano and violin.

The Art of Improvisation: how does it work? Members of the Cesar Mateus Sextet will discuss and demonstrate improvisation. Discussion to include traditional structures, melodic treatment and rhythm used in Jazz improvisation and influences of world music cultures.

Gold Medal Winner of the 1995 Prokofiev Piano Competition, Robert Thies will provide a master class and lecture on the art of piano performance. Mr. Thies will also discuss and demonstrate the practical needs and requirements for students wanting to follow the competition tradition.
